An Inconceivable Event!

I've been manifesting a The Princess Bride reunion for months, and somebody (the universe? Rob Reiner?) finally said... as you wish. For the past week, while attempting to distract myself from the possibly-happening-but-probably-cancelled SATs and the looming threat of summer homework that has not yet been completed, I have been looking forward to nothing else than this Sunday night's The Princess Bride reunion.

The Princess Bride (1987) is surprisingly not on the AFI Top 100 list, but it certainly is high up on mine. I won't write a full review because there is too much to say, and this is just meant to be a brief announcement about the upcoming event, but I can't help myself. There truly are few casts that compare in terms of talent, well-roundedness, and hilarity--to name names, Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patinkin, André the Giant, Christopher Guest, Peter Falk, Fred Savage, Chris Sarandon, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and so many more... (I didn't even have to google their names. I just know them all. That's how much I love this movie!) Not to mention an incredible crew, including the great Rob Reiner, William Goldman, and Norman Lear. I could go on and on quoting the memorable lines from this film, as there are literally hundreds. The whole script is quotable. Not only do all of their creative talents coalesce to form a great piece of entertainment, but The Princess Bride is a moving experience that people across all generations enjoy. And, if you have the time, I highly recommend reading Cary Elwes's book, As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. That book tells all the behind the scenes stories and really makes me want to be a filmmaker.

So, I am obviously thrilled that the cast is reuniting on Sunday, September 13 at 7pm EST to read the script and answer questions! The event is a fundraiser for Wisconsin Democrats, and you have to donate (any amount) to get the link. As you may know, this caused some controversy, as Ted Cruz complained that they were politicizing a great movie, to which I say, and what about it? Nearly all of the original cast will be returning to their parts; however, some of the cast have unfortunately passed away, and new guests will be reading their lines. In the new lineup are Whoopi Goldberg, Eric Idle, Finn Wolfhard, and Rob Reiner himself as the grandfather, among others. And, during the Q&A portion, there will be appearances from Patton Oswalt and "The Man Who Made It All Happen," Norman Lear. I am so excited and I hope you will join me at the event! Maybe they will even answer my question at the Q&A :) I will update everyone after the event with how it went!!!
