And Then There Were None

This book has been on my to-read list for years and I finally found it in a used book store in Cape Cod. I was drawn in from the beginning... maybe, like The Usual Suspects, I was more into it because it has a reputation for having a great twist ending. At first, when all the characters were introduced, I felt like I would never be able to remember all their names--MacArthur, Wargrave, Brent, Blore, Lombard, Claythorne, and more--but eventually you get to know their personalities and they are more recognizable. Speaking of names, let's not bring up the original title for the book and the nursery rhyme that is so integral to it; "Ten Little Soldiers" is much better, and honestly I couldn't enjoy the book if it kept the original title. The concept as a whole is so interesting: 10 random people are invited to an island by a mysterious U. N. Owen, and soon after they arrive people start dying, one by one, following the nursery rhyme. By the end of the book, you don't know who to trust! I was so stupid that I thought that the final chapter, which comes AFTER the epilogue, was an excerpt from another Agatha Christie book, so I sat unsatisfied with the ending until I realized there was more... and it was a twist, just as promised. I read this book in one day and I highly recommend it as a quick mystery for everyone!
